For students (HEI) not finding an internship the situation is challenging in two regards: no or limited practice-based education + not enough credits to graduate. Most students whose internships got canceled due to the pandemic were sympathetic to the company, however, they were hesitant to take that company as a future employer because they expect limited job security.
→ ENGAGE Model: instead of cancelling students could move to ENGAGE Model + work with real-world company as mentor company
67% of the students with virtual internships want daily check-ins with their managers.
→ ENGAGE Model: regular, daily check-ins with managers
How do the students feel for moving the internship virtual?
"I'm glad it did not got canceled "
"I worry that the experience will not be that good."
"I worry I will not be able to proof that I am worth a full-time"
"I was hoping to meet new people in person "
Framework & Model
The framework is conceived as an operating tool supporting VET schools providing in-school traineeships using the Practice Enterprise to complement traditional in-company internship, to cooperate in developing and applying the methodology within a VET context. The development of an inclusive traineeship model for trainees coming from different economic and social environments offers the possibility of individualised traineeship pathways, as the traineeship takes place directly in the VET institution and is closely monitored by in-class trainers.
